Russia has learned to extract rare metals from hazardous waste

Methods for effective processing of spent catalysts – massive and hazardous waste from the chemical industry – were proposed by scientists from the T.F. Gorbachev (KuzGTU). According to the authors, their methods will make it possible to extract compounds of rare and valuable metals from decommissioned catalysts for the manufacture of alloys. Their accumulation requires special storage conditions and often leads to serious environmental degradation due to the leakage of arsenic, vanadium, sulfuric acid and other chemicals into the soil and water. Истoчник This was reported in the press service of the university. Spent catalysts of chemical industries are large-tonnage highly toxic waste typical for industrial regions.
